The Sierra Designs Story
Founded in 1965 by Bob Swanson and George Marks, Sierra Designs was built on the basis of providing excellent gear to adventurous spirits from all walks, whether you’re an expert thru-hiker or a first-year summer camper. Bob and George first met as co-workers at The Ski Hut, an outdoor equipment retailer in Berkeley, where the two often dreamed of owning their own business. This outdoorsy duo got their wish one day when a wealthy benefactor gave them the money they needed to seed their new company: Sierra Designs. The Sierra Designs family is still composed of outdoorsy folks who all happily to do their part to protect our environment. For them, it means making products with as little impact to the environment as possible such as using recycled material and creating an environmentally-friendly water repellent that’s PFC-Free. As they like to say, “Think outside, because happiness is found in the adventure.”
